# Directions:
01 - Set the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
02 - Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
03 - Beat softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract, combining thoroughly.
04 - Gradually incorporate the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
05 - On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to approximately 1/4 inch thickness. Use a mermaid tail cookie cutter to create shapes.
06 - Place cutouts on prepared sheets and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges turn lightly golden. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
07 - Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, beating until fluffy.
08 - Divide frosting into several bowls and tint each with a different gel food coloring.
09 - Pipe colored buttercream onto cooled cookies using star or petal tips to create mermaid tail designs.
10 - Dust with edible shimmer and garnish with candy pearls or sprinkles as desired.
